As with other overhead line hardware, Q235 or Q345 steel with hot-dip galvanized finish is the material of choice for pole clamps. The galvanizing provides decades of corrosion protection in outdoor environments. For applications where galvanic compatibility with specific materials is a concern — such as when clamping aluminum equipment brackets to a steel band — appropriate isolation measures or material-matched clamps should be specified by the design engineer.
Some specialty applications use stainless steel clamps for superior corrosion resistance in extreme environments, though at significantly higher material cost compared to galvanized carbon steel options.
Mounting Configurations for Different Pole Types
Wood poles remain the most common pole material globally, particularly in North America. Pole clamps for wood poles must account for the variability in pole diameter, taper, and surface condition. Concrete poles are increasingly common in developing markets and offer a more consistent surface for clamp attachment. Steel poles, used primarily in urban and sub-transmission applications, provide excellent compatibility with bolt-through clamp designs.
